Mailmate — an email app with a myth (updated)
It is an app made by a nerd, for nerds and is very ugly, expensive, difficult to use and seldom gets updated. That is what you often find when you search the internet for info about the email app Mailmate. But is it true?
Mailmate is an email app developed by Benny Kjaer Nielsen from Denmark. Benny writes about his email app on the Mailmate website:
MailMate aspires to be the most powerful, the most flexible, the most efficient, the most standards compliant, and the most secure email client.
Wether it is or not, I am not the right person to have an opinion on, since I have only tried about a dozen or so different email apps for macOS and iOS, and there are hundreds out there.
But among the ones I have tried, I agree that Mailmate is something special and different. I would say that if you want something similar you might have to look at Preside (iOS) or AltaMail. None of these however fills the same place in the email app universe as Mailmate does.
At first glance Mailmate could be seen as Apple Mail on steroids. Benny is building his app according to the standards, just like Apple Mail. But when you start to dig in to the app, you realise it is indeed very powerful.
